Practicum

The objectives of the practicum are to complement studies with a direct contact with the professional world, as well as the stimulation of the relationship between students, companies and institutions so that students get to know the labour market more directly.

The faculty makes a difference between curricular and extracurricular internships:

Curricular internships are arranged in the syllabus. The minimum duration of these practices will be 150 hours (140 hours of dedication and 10 hours for mentorship, writing of the report and other autonomous tasks), and the maximum of 900 hours or 6 months. The faculty will periodically publish the offers received. Students are required to pass at least 70% of the credits to access curricular practices. These practices take precedence over extracurricular ones.

Extracurricular internships are mentioned in the European Diploma Supplement to the degree, but are not listed as an optional subject. To access this kind of internships, students should have passed at least 50% of the credits of the bachelor’s degree and not closed the academic record. The minimum duration of these internships will be 150 hours (140 hours of dedication and 10 hours for tutorials, writing of the report and autonomous tasks), and the maximum of 900 hours or six months.

In both cases, internships may not exceed 900 hours or 135 days per year and per company or institution, unless the exceptions provided in the regulations for external internships of Castilla-La Mancha are met.

The Board of the Faculty of Journalism may deny the realization of external internships when the company had carried out an ERE and/or the conditions of the internships are not optimal in accordance with labour rights and/or the quality of the training plan.

The external internships are mainly addressed to students at third and fourth year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication and the Double Degree. As a general rule, there are three official calls for external internships:

• First semester. Call: Estimated dates of completion: from October to December.
• Second semester. Estimated dates of completion: from February to April and from April to June.
• Summer: Estimated dates of completion: from July to August.

Students who wish to carry out internships in organizations within the educational cooperation agreements must complete the CIPE telematics application to fill in their resume.

A list with all the institutions and companies offering internships will be published in every call. Apart from those offered by the Faculty, students can request to carry out the internships with a collaborating institution. In this case, the prior signing of the agreements and the consent from the professor responsible is required. Said agreements have to be signed a month before the start of the internships. The month of August shall be deemed to be a holiday for the purpose of any deadlines or time limits.

The list of internships is public and will follow the principles of disclosure, transparency and equality. The Faculty makes the offer public using the boards and the virtual campus.

The Faculty will periodically publish a list with the internship offer. The student has to register through the CIPE and submit the required documentation. The professor responsible for the subject will send the resumes of interested students out to the companies that make the selection based on academic criteria (academic record at the time the offer is published, languages, complementary training, previous experience) and the student profile.

Once you have completed the internship, you must prepare a report and submit it to the Faculty’ secretariat, along with the certificates of the company’s tutor (report and manager’s certificate) and the tutor of the Faculty of Journalism. This documentation shall be submitted within the term established by the coordinator. You will also have to fill out the survey available in the CIPE platform.

When you deliver the report to the secretariat, you must request the recognition of credits for the subject of External Practices. To do so, you will have to be enrolled in the subject and meet all the aforementioned requirements. Once the documentation is reviewed, your final mark for this subject will be published.

If students want to renounce the assigned internship, they will be required to make the resignation in writing and providing reasons, according to the annex available at the secretary of the faculty.
