Juan Luis Manfredi Sánchez is tenured Professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, where he teaches Journalism and International Studies. He is member of the Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet at the European Studies Center. The last project is “What role for Europe in the Indo-Pacific? Identifying regional policy responses towards the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy 2022-25” (Grant 101085570).

 

He is Associated Professor at the Spanish Diplomatic School. He is charge of “Diplomacy” courses in the official master’s degree. He is guest professor in other diplomatic schools.

 

He was named Prince of Asturias Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Foreign Service (Georgetown University, 2021-2024). He taught “Diplomacy for the world to come”, “Urban International Politics”, “Deglobalization & Public Diplomacy” and “Public Diplomacy”. He was -and still is- member of the Latin American Leadership Program fellow. Currently, he serves as Geopolitics & Diplomacy Vicepresident of Georgetown Club of Spain. 

 

Also, he serves as International Studies Association - ICOMM Section Chair (International Communication) and executive committee member. Her challenge is to manage the diversity of generations, geographies, and genders in global research practice (6,500 associates from 180 countries). Over the past year, he has led the conversation about the impact of turbulence (Trumpism, wars, great competition) on international communication research. 

 

 

His field of research includes deglobalization, European politics, public diplomacy, urban international politics, and geopolitics/geoeconomics. His most recent books are How Disinformation Ruins Public Diplomacy: Unfair Competition(Routledge, 2025), Handbook of Diplomatic Reform and Innovation (Palgrave, 2023), and Urban Diplomacy. A Cosmopolitan Outlook (Brill, 2021),long-listed in the Pattis Family Foundation Global Cities Book Award – Chicago Council on Global Affairs
